I can't say that I wasn't surprised to wake to the sound of birds chirping somewhere in the vicinity of my bedroom window this morning. I suppose they spend a bit of time in the roof-top garden that I posted a picture of yesterday; or, perhaps, in any of the fairly numerous trees that spot the island. I was taken aback at the amount of greenery on the islands that comprise the Hong Kong area. My mental images of sky scraper after sky scraper after high rise after high rise all panned out, but the trees were a nice surprise. Another thing I wasn't quite expecting were the smells that go along with living a city entrenched in old religion and in large supply of anything and everything one could want in the markets right outside your door. The smell of incense leaks in under the apartment door from the shrines set up in the stairwells. The almost overwhelming blend of garlic and raw fish somehow wafts in through the ac unit from 17 floors below. Its another lovely morning in Hong Kong.
Unlike yesterday, the sun is shining and theres not a cloud in sight. This means a load of touristy photos will be gracing the blog later this evening. I'm not entirely sure what my agenda holds today. The fact that its Easter really just dawned on me with the revelation that it is Sunday. This jet-lag still has a nasty grip on me, although I'm slowly breaking through it. I should say that coffee and breakfast will probably be first on the agenda. Dinner at a HopPot restaurant this evening will bring to close a Sunday night tradition started by Nicholas and our roommate Jason before I arrived.
Check back later for some photos of this beautiful, sun-shiney day!
